There is an incredibly interesting article at The Atlantic Cities.com that details by state what assets and wages are protected for a debtor, and what can be attached.
The bottom line is once a debtor finds themselves spiraling out of control in debt, it gets more and more difficult to pull out.
From our side of the table, as Debt Collection Attorneys in Florida, we can only say, make commitments with your creditors, and do all you can to honor them. The best way out of a debt quagmire is to find a way to make good on what you owe, and work with your creditors.
