Tampa Bay’s workplaces thrive by retaining top employees.

Five years ago, the United States experienced the worst recession in decades.

The recession caused a drop in real estate business, crippled business that created goods, and nearly halted tourism. Yet, despite this failing in business, Tampa was still littered with real estate companies, manufacturers, and hotels.

The question quickly became, “How are these companies overcoming the financial downfall and still maintaining their work force?”

Now we see that the economy is slowly becoming healthy again. Profits are coming in and employees are beginning to feel a bit better about their earnings. So the concern for most employers this day is – “How do we keep our best workers?” Many companies will agree that maintaining their best workers is a priority.

Contrary to popular belief – it’s not as simple as handing out more money.

Bay Area Legal Services has a strong strategy. They make sure that every employee has important work to do and in position to do that work effectively through the use of training.

A debt collection firm, Hunter Warfield, employees receive quarterly evaluations and there is communication between superiors, peers, and teammates twice a year. This was beneficial to the organization’s communication and team building.

Understanding generational difference is important also, because every individual is different especially the comparison between those born in the mid 90’s and now the early 90s in the work place. Work, life, and community service can mean more to some employees than just a big pay check. Some prefer recognition and others are just looking for fun in the workplace.

There are many surveys that have been done and the majority point to the positives as being better benefits and the negatives being those ever so dreadful time clocks. It is a dynamic of making the work place fun, supportive, engaging, and productive that makes employees wish to stay.

More Debt - but More Responsible.

It seems all of the major Q1 indicators are flooding the information market, and it can bet tough sorting it all out.  There is some room for celebration!

From our perspective, as debt collection attorneys in Florida, we are seeing the same type behavior that is being reported in the media.

1.  Overall credit card purchasing is DOWN.  We are incredibly glad to hear that.

2.  Mortgage Debt is UP, up by $116 by $116 Billion.   Does this mean that consumers are back in the mortgage business, and this is good for the economy, or does it mean we are growing a new bubble.  Our bet is on a recovering economy.

3.  Student Loan Balances are up by $31 Billion.   We see student loan debt as a double edged sword.   Our youth must be educated in order for our country, and the individuals in it, to be prosperous.  We are, however, saddling our students with an astronomical amount of debt, that will with certainty impact our economy, perhaps for generations to come, negatively.

4.   Auto loans debt is up $12 Billion.   Once again, we have to ask, is this nothing more than thirst coming out of recession for cool stuff.. or are we experiencing true and sustainable industry growth.  We are opting on the side of good for the industry.  From a Debt Collection Professionals' perspective, Auto loans are secured, in the event of default, ultimately the car can be repossessed.. Student Loans never die.  We are far more concerned over the growth of Student Loans, than car loans.

Debt Management and Spending through the generations - Part 1

As debt collection attorneys in Florida, its out job to make sure that when a business or individual owes our clients money, it gets paid.

We see many people in harsh financial circumstances that could have been avoided with some advanced planning.

We ran into a great article that discusses spending  and age and things to look out for at various times of our lives, and would like to share that with you.

http://gulfnews.com/gn-focus/personal-loans/spending-tracker-map-your-financial-footprint-1.1314952

The article suggest that first, we get control of what our financial house looks like.

Journal 2 months of spending - and break the spending into sections like food, entertainment, housing, etc.
  • Create a list of fixed bills  - things like power, water, rent or mortgage
  • Compare the two lists and determine if your spending habits, match your expense requirements.

  • Create an emergency fund equal to 3 to 6 months of expenses to help you through unexpected events.  Most Americans can't survive a 2 week interruption in income, every step you take towards 3 to 6 months puts you ahead of the crowd.
  • Your loans should be no more than a third of your income.
  • If you are of child bearing years, make sure your insurance includes maternity.
  • Don't be afraid of personal loans to help you buy assets the will increase in value, like a home.
  • They suggest debt stacking, make bare minimum payments on all your credit cards, except one - the smallest one.   Pay the smallest one off with as large of payments as you can.  Then go down the stack with the money you saved by paying off the first, tackle the next.

6 Sure Fire Ways To Get Upside Down in Debt! - (Con't.)

3. Overspend or simply spend spending future earnings that haven't been banked yet.

That contract is going to come in next month with a big fat commission, so I can afford to buy the television today... right?

One of life's little realities are that the money doesn't always come, or come when you expect it, but the credit card bill is always on time.

Another trap is that the money comes, but before the credit card bill arrives, and gets spent on a celebratory trip, and then the credit card comes, and there's no extra money to pay it.

One of the best strategies is to spend when the money gets there, don't spend ahead.

Debt Scams out of Indian Call Centers

Marcadis Singer, PA are professional debt collection attorneys in Florida.   You all know that, we have said it over and over again in our posts, but we'd like to focus for just a moment on the key word in that statement... PROFESSIONAL.

As Attorneys, we are held to very high professional standards in the collection of debt.  We treat our creditors and our debtors with respect, and the utmost of professionalism

For lack of a better word, it flat out infuriates us when we read about Debt Collection Scams run out of offshore call centers.   We applaud the Federal Trade Commission for taking action this week against just such a scam.  We aren't going to mention names, but provide a link for those interested in the alleged perpetrators.

What we find most disturbing is that this is not the first, or even the second time this particular organization has come under fire.

Marcadis Singer PA are proud of their active community participation, of giving back to the community that supports us, of standing with our national associations that encourage, even demand professionalism of their members.

Here are a few quotes from the article, quotes that would make any "professional" debt collection attorney's blood boil!

"The FTC said it had imposed a judgment of more than $25.3 million against the companies, which also used a phony interest rate reduction scheme between January 2010 and August 2011.

The operation's callers used threats, lies, and abusive tactics to collect debts from consumers who had previously applied for or received loans from online payday loan companies and had supplied sensitive personal financial information that later found its way into the hands of those involved with the scam."

When you need to final resources of an attorney in Florida, whose practice focusses on Debt Collection, we would encourage you to visit our website, evaluate the professionalism our firm, review not just the credentials, but the philanthropy of each our debt collection attorneys.  We will represent you with the utmost of professionalism.
